Building Pathways for Rural Sporting Excellence
Through Village Sports Centres and the Bharat Kabaddi League, we're creating opportunities for rural youth to discover, train, and excel in sports at the grassroots and national levels.
1. Village Sports Centres
India's rural areas hold vast untapped sporting potential, yet over 75% of villages lack basic sports infrastructure or trained coaching support. According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (2023), lack of rural sports centres remains a critical bottleneck in developing grassroots talent.
The Village Sports Centre (VSC) Project by Sant Sri Foundation seeks to bridge this gap by establishing community-owned sports centres that provide youth with access to structured training, modern equipment, and opportunities for competitions. A need assessment study (2024) conducted by the Foundation across Uttar Pradesh revealed:
- 89% of rural youth show strong interest in sports but lack access to facilities.
- Girls face greater barriers due to safety and social restrictions.
- Rural youth aspire to participate in government sports scholarship schemes but require professional coaching.
Village Sports Centres
At the Panchayat level, the aim is to provide boys and girls aged 14 to 18 years with opportunities to participate in various sports competitions.
Team Manager Role
For this purpose, a local youth will be appointed as the Team Manager to operate a "Village Sports Centre," which will serve as a nursery for players. The responsibilities will include:
- Inviting village boys and girls daily for sports and exercise sessions based on local facilities
- Teaching them discipline and rules
- Taking the team to participate in different sports competitions
- Ensuring their participation in the annual sports events organized by the organization
Our Core Objectives
- To establish sports centers in every village
- To enable the rural community, often disconnected from the mainstream and unaware of their natural physical abilities, to gain recognition at the national and international levels
- Identify and nurture rural sports talent
- Promote traditional Indian sports, especially Kabaddi, on modern platforms
- Encourage inclusivity and gender equality in sports participation
- Strengthen community spirit through youth engagement
2. Bharat Kabaddi League (BKL)
The Bharat Kabaddi League (BKL) is more than just a sports tournament — it is a national movement to uplift India's rural and tribal Kabaddi talent. Organized by Abhyudaya Youth Club, BKL is a platform created for under-18 players who come from villages, small towns, and overlooked regions across India.
